Toi Tee Toen

Toi is experienced in all aspects of civil and commercial litigation both in court and arbitration. He has acted in a wide range of complex disputes involving commercial, contract and corporate matters including liquidation and insolvency, land law litigation, tort litigation, insurance and aviation disputes.

 

He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2008 as an Advocate & Solicitor. Prior to joining the firm, Toi was a partner with the leading Malaysian law firm of Shearn Delamore & Co. He has been involved in various complex and high profile matters, including the following matters:-

 

Bondholders’ claims against the transaction players in a multi-million dollar bonds issuance

 

  • He was involved in claims made against, amongst others, a leading investment bank, a reputable trust company and a leading accounting firm in respect of their respective obligations under the bonds issue. This was the second litigation of this nature in Malaysia against the transaction players in a bonds issue.

 

Commercial dispute involving the acquisition of a major glove making business

 

  • He was involved in a complex dispute arising from a billion-dollar acquisition of a major glove maker in Malaysia, which garnered wide spread publicity.

 

Family business dispute involving a prominent family who owns a global casino and entertainment business

 

  • He was involved in multiple disputes relating to a widely publicised family feud involving different factions of the family who owns the only licenced casino in Malaysia.

 

Judicial Review arising from the compulsory acquisition of the Ampang Park Shopping Centre

 

  • He was involved in the Judicial Review arising from the compulsory acquisition of the Ampang Park Shopping Centre, which was once considered an iconic landmark in the city of Kuala Lumpur, for the purpose of the development of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Project (the MRT Project) in respect of the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line.

 

Arbitration involving a groundwater resources development project

 

  • He acted for a government linked conglomerate in a complex arbitration claim arising from a groundwater resources development project for certain states in Peninsula Malaysia.

 

 

PUBLICATIONS

 

Toi was a co-contributor to a Thomson Reuters publication on the Law and Practice of Injunctions in Malaysia (2020).
